Here is a simple recipe for ring donuts :

Water heated to 115 in the bowl of a stand mixer equipped with a paddle connection, let sit until foamy, about ten minutes. Add remaining sugar, plus dairy, salt, eggs, and shortening, mixture until combined. With the motor running, gradually add flour, beat until dough is smooth.

Transfer to a lightly oiled bowl and cover freely with plastic wrap, set in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 12 hours. Turn dough on lightly floured surface, roll dough right into a 13 round about 12 thick. Using floured 3 12 and 1 12 ring cutters, cut right out donuts and holes, assemble and reuse bits.

Place on greased baking paper lined baking sheets, at least 3 aside, and cover freely with plastic wrap, set in a warm spot until doubled in size, about frothy five minutes. Saucepan until a deep fry thermometer says 325. Using scissors, cut the donuts out from the parchment paper, leaving about 1 of paper around the sides of every donut. Working in batches, location donuts in oil, paper side up, using tongs to peel off and toss paper. Cook, turning once until puffed and golden, about 3-4 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to a baking sheet with a the grid, let cool completely.

Using a little ladle, skim and toss white movie from surface. Slowly pour fluid from pan into a bowl, leaving deposit behind, let cool 1 minute. Add evaporated dairy, vanilla, 14 cup water, and sugar, whisk until smooth.
